SINGAPORE - Chng Seng Mok, managing director of Poh Heng Jewellery and former national shooter, died of cancer on Saturday morning. He was 65, and leaves behind daughters Charlene and Stephanie.

Chng is best known for growing homegrown brand Poh Heng - which was founded by his father Chng Tok Ngam in 1948 - from a single silver and goldsmith shop to a booming 16-outlet retail giant.

Away from the world of gold and silver, Chng also carved out a niche in shooting.

His most notable achievement came at the 1990 Asian Games, when he won Singapore's first shotgun medal - a bronze in the individual trap event. This, despite picking up the sport just three years earlier.

He was also president of the Singapore Shooting Association from 2004 to 2012.
