SINGAPORE - The national Under-23 team has been drawn in Group A for next month's SEA Games, alongside Myanmar, Brunei, Laos and hosts Malaysia.

Placed in arguably the easier of the two groups following the draw on Saturday (July 8), Singapore have avoided powerhouse and defending champions Thailand.

The Republic are bidding to better their showing from the last Games, when on home soil they failed to qualify for the semi-finals.

Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Timor-leste and Cambodia make up the rest of Group B.

Singapore's last football medal at the biennial Games came at the 2013 edition in Myanmar, where a 2-1 victory over Malaysia clinched the bronze medal.

The 29th SEA Games will be held in Kuala Lumpur from Aug 19-30.
