The gap stands at 58. When Liverpool play their game in hand, however, it could be 61. Since the start of last season, they have already claimed 58 more points than Manchester United. Which is roughly how many points Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are on course to finish with this season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are set for a record. The gulf between rivals has never been bigger. United could be headed for a historic low, their smallest points tally since 1990. And Liverpool have become a particularly pertinent precedent.
