Rankings matter less than silverware but Belgium have spent longer on top of the Fifa charts than any team since the Spain side that won one World Cup and two European Championships.
But the Belgian trophy cabinet remains empty - unless you count the 1920 Olympic gold medal - and this feels the last chance for some time for officially the world's best team to be anointed as Europe's finest.
