Goals by Empoli's Francesco Caputo and Emmanuel Gyasi helped bag a surprise 2-0 win at fifth-placed Fiorentina in Serie A on Monday, pulling Aurelio Andreazzoli's side out of the drop zone.

Empoli took the lead in the 21st minute when Caputo lifted the ball over goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano from close range.

Substitute Emmanuel Gyasi made it 2-0 with a low shot down the middle of the goal late in the second half.

Fiorentina stay on 17 points and trail leaders Inter Milan by five. Empoli moved up to 17th place on seven points with only their second win in nine games. REUTERS
