Tottenham Hotspur scored on Wednesday. Actually, they got two, but the opener against Norwich was notable. It was Spurs' first goal in league football this year. Eighty-nine of the other 91 Premier and Football League clubs had opened their account for the calendar year before Jose Mourinho's team.

It was not a statistical outlier as much as issues colliding. Today's FA Cup tie takes Spurs back to the ground where their month began with a dismal defeat by Southampton on New Year's Day.
