SINGAPORE - S-League club Tampines Rovers have added another striker to their line-up for the upcoming season, with Billy Mehmet joining from Sarawak.

He scored 10 goals for the Malaysia Super League (MSL) side last season, making him the league's joint-third highest scorer.

The 31-year-old, who represented Ireland at the Under-21 level, had also scored the second of two goals in Sarawak's 2-1 win against the now-disbanded LionsXII side in an MSL game last August.

Mehmet's globetrotting career has seen him play for Malaysian teams Kedah and Sarawak, as well as Australian club Perth Glory, Turkish side Genclerbirligi and Scottish side St Mirren.

With former Liverpool and Arsenal player Jermaine Pennant and last season's top local scorer Fazrul Nawaz (18 goals) also joining the team, Mehmet's addition will add even more firepower to V. Sundramoorthy's front line.

Last month, Tampines lost to India's Mohun Bagan in the first preliminary round play-off of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League. As a result, they will play in the second-tier AFC Cup.

The Stags will kick off their season against Geylang International on Feb 15.
