SINGAPORE - In the aftermath of Spain's last-16 exit to hosts Russia at the World Cup early this month, the Spanish media used damning words such as "stupid", "negligent" and the "end of an era" to describe La Roja's performances.

However, former Spain international Gaizka Mendieta believes that the showings of Sergio Ramos and Co. were "not as worrying" as they were in the 2014 tournament in Brazil, where the then-world and European champions were sent packing in the group stage.
