Football: Singtel to broadcast centennial Copa America

SINGAPORE - Football fans can look forward to a feast of international football matches in June, after Singtel announced it has secured the rights to broadcast the Copa America Centenario USA 2016.

Superstars Lionel Messi, Alexis Sanchez and Luis Suarez will be on show at the 100th anniversary of the South American championship, which is the world's oldest international continental football competition.

This is the first time the tournament will be hosted outside South America, and will feature an expanded 16 competing teams, up from the usual 12. Countries outside South America, including the United States and Mexico, will join the likes of Brazil, Argentina and Chile in 32 matches held throughout the US from June 3-26.

Singtel customers who sign-up for or renew their Trio, Variety or Value packs for 24 months will be able to watch the Copa America, along with the Uefa Euro 2016, which takes place in June as well, at no additional charge. This also applies to customers on an on-going contract.

Customers will also be able to watch matches from the two tournaments on the Singtel TV GO app. where match fixtures and replays will be accessible. In addition, those who sign-up or renew their mio Stadium+ pack for 24 months will be able to watch the matches on their mobile devices, or stream the matches directly to their TV screens with the app's Chromecast and AirPlay function.

The matches will be shown on Channel 141 in HD at 5.30am, 7.30am and 9am, with other matches shown concurrently on Channel 142.
