SINGAPORE - The national Under-16 women's football squad that will be playing in the qualifiers for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-16 women's championship 2017 has been named.
The 21-player squad will be led by women's national team coach Chen Caiying. The qualifiers will be held in Bangladesh's capital city of Dhaka from Aug 27 to Sep 5.
In a draw made in May, Singapore have been drawn to face Iran, Chinese Taipei, Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Kyrgyzstan in Group C of the biennial tournament.
Singapore will starts its campaign with a game against UAE on Aug 27.
Chen said: "We have been drawn in a very tough group. The other teams in Group C are some of the best in Asia. It will not be easy for us. Nevertheless, we will work hard and aim to do our best in every match. Tournaments like this are essential to give our girls more international exposure."
The team went for a training camp in Osaka in June, where they played three friendly matches in as many days against Japanese teams.
