SINGAPORE - The Football Association of Singapore announced on Friday the finalised 23-man Singapore Select XI squad for the July 15 and July 18 Barclays Asia Trophy.
The biennial tournament, which will be held at the National Stadium, also features English Premier League teams Arsenal, Stoke City and Everton.
The team comprises 19 locals and four foreigners from the domestic S-League and will be skippered by national team captain Shahril Ishak.
They will be led by head coach V Sundramoorthy, and open their campaign against FA Cup winners Arsenal on July 15.
Also in the squad is national goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud.
Izwan, who attracted the attention of the J-League following his impressive shutout in Singapore's 0-0 draw with Japan, is already looking forward to the clash.
Said the 24-year-old custodian: "I am excited about taking on the world-class strikers from these Premier League clubs, and my backline and I will do our best to keep them at bay.
"Having a stadium packed with Singapore fans cheering us on and hearing the Kallang Roar will definitely make us raise our game."
Sundram, who assisted national head coach Bernd Stange in the recent World Cup qualifiers against Cambodia and Japan, said: "The Singapore players will be entering the Barclays Asia Trophy with confidence especially after the 0-0 draw with Japan.
"And if they perform well in the two matches, it will give them another good boost as for our next World Cup qualifying match against Syria in September."
