SINGAPORE - When the coaches at the private football academy he trained at organised a freestyle skills contest over Zoom during the pandemic, aspiring player Denzel Ari Thrumurgan only had one thing on his mind.
He practised his skills, according to his mother Priscilla Yip, "for eight hours straight, skipping meals, just to get it right" for three days in a row. He ended up winning.
