LONDON (GUARDIAN) Roma have reached a deal to take Wojciech Szczesny on loan for next season with a view to buying the Polish goalkeeper next summer for €5 million (S$7.46m).

The two clubs had been in negotiations for several days before they agreed terms on the 12-month deal with Roma understood to be paying around €1 million to have the 25-year old in their squad for next season.

One sticking point had been whether Arsenal should continue to pay a percentage of the goalkeeper's wages but in the end the two clubs agreed the Serie A club would pay the full amount.

Szczesny arrived at Arsenal in 2006 and made his first-team debut three years later, in a Carling Cup game against West Bromwich Albion.

He broke into the first team during the 2010-11 season , played in every Premier League match the following season and missed only one in 2013-14.

But he was dropped last season in favour of Colombian David Ospina and Wenger signed Czech international Petr Cech this summer.

The former Chelsea stopper, who won four league titles during his time at Stamford Bridge, is likely to start as the Gunner's first choice in goal.
