Halfway through last season, this writer was at a social event and struck up a conversation with someone, neither of us aware of each other’s profession.
A friendly enough chat, including an exchange of some dynamite industry gossip, ended with us laying a small wager – two pints of Guinness – over which of Tottenham Hotspur or Aston Villa would finish higher at the end of the 2023-24 English Premier League season.
