Euro2016: Ronaldo in meltdown, social media goes into overdrive

Without a win, without a goal at Euro 2016 and staring at elimination in the face, it is little wonder that Cristiano Ronaldo is under pressure.

The Portugal superstar is used to such situations but the uber-confident forward is showing signs of strain ahead of his team's do-or-die game against Hungary on Wednesday (June 22).

Here is how CR7 has snapped and how the Internet has been merciless in laughing at his expense.

1. Mic drop, Ronaldo-style

Kobe Bryant had done it. President Barack Obama had done it. Now, it is the Ballon d'Or winner to demonstrate the art of the mic drop.

Approached on Wednesday by a reporter, the Real Madrid and Portugal forward was in a gruff mood. Without answering the journalist's question, Ronaldo grabbed the microphone and lobbed it into the lake next to him.

With zero goals from 36 free-kicks taken at the World Cup and European Championship finals, and missing a penalty against Austria, this is by far the most accurate shot CR7 took so far.

2. Single ladies (put a ring on it)

Should his football career fail, there is still a chance Ronaldo's fancy footwork can be gainfully employed in the music industry.

One of the best photos of Euro2016 shows the star striker grimacing in fear, probably at a ferocious ball lashed towards his gelled hair. The Internet took notice and duly unleashed a torrent of memes to poke fun of the player.

This one shows Ronaldo as one of Beyonce's backup dancers in her hit video Single Ladies and he hardly looks out of place.

3. Stirring a bees' nest

If he is allowed to rule the world, Lionel Messi wouldn't exist, all men will wear his CR7-branded underwear and "small countries" like Iceland will never be at the Euros.

You see, that last comment, in the wake of the 1-1 draw against the nation with less people than the Jurong East MRT station, smacks of ignorance and some say, arrogance.

Well, it is safe to assume Ronaldo will not be welcomed with open arms in the land of Gudjohnsen, Sigurdsson, Gunnarsson, Skulason and etc. He had quite literally angered a bees' nest.

4. Scratch, sniff and shake hands

Apart from Ronaldo's tantrums, another abiding memory of this tournament is the stink raised by Germany coach Joachim Low's touchline antics.

Already famous for digging his nose while watching from the side, Low hit a new, erm, low when cameras caught him reaching inside the front of his pants and later sniffing his fingers.

Surely, the best meme of Euro2016 has to be that of the Mannschaft boss offering a handshake to a petrified CR7. The sight of Low's outstretched hand will have many of us running away in fear anyway.
