SINGAPORE – Starting with the first round-of-16 match between Switzerland and Italy on June 29 (11.59pm), Euro 2024 knockout matches will be screened for free at the integrated community hubs at Tampines, Punggol and Bedok.
These include the quarter-finals (July 5 to 7), semi-finals (July 10 and 11) and final (July 15). The matches kick off at either midnight or 3am (Singapore time).
During the group stage, the three hubs – Our Tampines Hub (OTH), One Punggol and Heartbeat@Bedok – showed only selected matches.
A media statement from OTH said: “Watching the matches at these community hubs offer the perfect opportunity for die-hard fans or those who just want to watch the game with friends to share in the excitement.”
Seri Syazwina is planning to catch selected matches at OTH with her friends. “We didn’t subscribe to any live streaming channels so we decided to head down for just the ones we want to watch the most,” said the 25-year-old programme manager trainee.
“Also, because watching together, even with strangers, has that football spirit which makes it more fun to watch.”
Ravern Koh, 24, also revels in the communal experience. The university student, who lives in Tampines, plans to catch the final with his family and girlfriend at OTH.
“I think OTH provides a great environment with its huge screen and plentiful seating. It’s also really convenient since it’s near my home,” he added.
There are also some who told The Straits Times that they would continue to catch the matches from home.
Keith Ong, a 39-year-old business owner, said: “I’ve subscribed so I will continue to watch at home, but I might consider heading down with friends.”
Another fan, Lee Yong Sheng, a full-time national serviceman, plans to host a watch party with friends for the final, citing the comfort of watching from his own home.
From June 30 till July 15, the hubs will also feature fringe activities, such as a football-themed carnival and giveaways.
At OTH, its town square will see a Family Football Carnival on July 7, where participants can win prizes and enjoy football-themed activities.
Youths will also have the opportunity to learn from Singapore Premier League’s Hougang United coach Marko Kraljevic and his coaching team at football clinics. Participants can also compete in an e-sports tournament using EA Sports FC 24 to win a PlayStation 5 console.
Freestyle football, where one juggles a football using any part of their body except from their elbow to their hands will be on display in the evening, along with a Euro 2024 football giveaway.
One Punggol will be organising two social media contests, where a Germany Euro 2024 home/away jersey and an “official Euro 2024 pro soccer ball” are up for grabs.
On certain match days, Heartbeat@Bedok will feature activities such as foosball and flag face-painting. Those who head down to catch the matches can enter a lucky draw, where 20 winners stand a chance to win a Euro 2024 football.
Five such balls will also be given away to residents who participate in a social media giveaway to guess the Euro 2024 winner.
