West Ham United have signed right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United on a seven-year contract, the English Premier League club announced on Aug 13.

The deal is worth around £15 million (S$25.4 million) for the 26-year old, who was in the final year of his contract at United.

Wan-Bissaka began his career at Crystal Palace before joining United in 2019. He played 190 matches for the Red Devils and helped them win the FA Cup last season.

“I see a team that is in it together, that will push each other to win, and a group that has got each others’ backs through thick and thin,” the defender said in a statement.

“It was a no-brainer for me to join West Ham – I’m excited and happy to be here.”

The Hammers, who finished ninth last season, kick off their Premier League campaign at home to Aston Villa on Aug 17 with new coach Julen Lopetegui at the helm.

United, who were eighth last term and start against Fulham at home on Aug 16, are set to sign Noussair Mazraoui as a replacement, as well as his Bayern Munich teammate Matthijs de Ligt.

Both players previously played under United manager Erik ten Hag at Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam.

Elsewhere, Brentford manager Thomas Frank has heaped praise on Fabio Carvalho for being a versatile player, as the forward joined his team from Liverpool on a five-year contract.

No fee was disclosed, but British media reports said the 21-year-old Portuguese would initially cost Brentford £22.5 million, with a further £5 million in add-ons.

Liverpool would also be entitled to a 17.5 per cent sell-on fee for a player bought from Fulham for £5 million in 2022.

Carvalho’s contract includes an additional one-year extension option, and Frank is confident that he is the right signing.

“Fabio is a player with a lot of qualities,” the manager said on the club’s website.

“He can play in all of the front three or four positions in a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1. His best position is probably as a No. 10 or coming in from the left.

“Offensively, he has great abilities on the ball.

“He can go past players, slide a pass, create chances and get on the end of chances.

“He’s a type of player we don’t have many of in the squad, so he will add that something extra for us.”

Frank was also happy with Carvalho’s character.

“His ability and mentality to work hard under pressure are also very, very good,” he added.

Carvalho spent last season on loan at German club RB Leipzig and then at English second-tier side Hull, where he scored nine goals in 20 appearances.

Brentford, who finished 13 points above the relegation zone last season, begin the new Premier League campaign at home to London rivals Crystal Palace on Aug 18.
