As Liverpool opened up a 13-point gap, capitalising on Arsenal’s latest misfire, the midweek round of matches also closed out with each of the bottom three losing, there was talk the English Premier League season might already be over, bar the shouting.

Liverpool have been imperious, Arsenal far too fallible. Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton, the three teams promoted from last season’s Championship, lie in the relegation spots adrift of Wolverhampton Wanderers, who have improved under Vitor Pereira and boast one of the best forwards within English football in Matheus Cunha.
