River Plate lose top spot after 2-0 defeat by Atletico Tucuman

SAN MIGUEL TUCUMAN, Argentina - River Plate lost their grip on first place in Group B of the Argentine Primera Division Clausura tournament after losing 2-0 away to Atletico Tucuman on Saturday.
Leandro Diaz appeared to give Tucuman the lead with a header from a corner five minutes into the match, but the goal was disallowed for offside following a VAR review. However, seven minutes later, Clever Ferreira broke the deadlock with a superb header from a corner.
River struggled to equalise, with Lautaro Rivero and Giuliano Galoppo both testing Tucuman goalkeeper Matias Lisandro Mansilla, who made some decisive saves. Their hopes were further dashed in the second half when Diaz converted a penalty to double the hosts' lead at the 68th minute.
The defeat leaves River Plate second in Group B with 18 points, trailing Deportivo Riestra by one. Marcelo Gallardo's men will look to reclaim the top spot when they face Riestra on September 28. REUTERS
