Fencing: Amita's fine run at Fencing Cadet and Junior World Championships ends in last eight

SINGAPORE - National fencer Amita Berthier bowed out in the last eight of the Fencing Cadet and Junior World Championships women's cadet individual (foil) event on Friday.

She lost 6-15 to American Sylvia Bender in Bourges, France on day one of the competition.

Amita, 15, who bettered her top-16 performance at last year's edition, is the first Singaporean to reach the top eight of the event.

Her elder sister Aarya, 17, was earlier eliminated in the round of 64 by Germany's Kari Weiner, losing 13-15.

The competition, which runs till April 10, resumes today with the men's cadet individual (epee) and women's cadet individual (sabre) events.
