SINGAPORE - Dragon boat paddlers can expect greater participation and an increased total cash incentive at this year's DBS Marina Regatta, which is in its fifth edition.

An estimated 180 teams and more than 3,000 athletes from the region are expected to compete at the event, which will take place over two weekends on May 28-29 and June 4-5 at Marina Bay.

There will be a total prize purse of $230,000, a $15,000 increase from last year, across 11 categories ranging from international to corporate races.

The prize money will be split between the 200m and 500m races. In previous editions, cash incentives were handed out based on combined race results for both distances.

22-crew races will see the top teams win $10,000, while winning teams of 12-crew races will get $5,000.

The regatta will also offer other activities such as themed dragon boat races, competitive kayak races and a pop-up urban beach.
