Men's singles player Derek Wong chalked up the Republic's only point in his match against Mark Caljouw, winning 21-12, 25-23 in Dongguan, China.
But it is likely women's singles player Chen Jiayuan who will rue the loss most. The Singaporean was beaten 21-17, 23-25, 12-21 by Soraya de visch Eijbergen.
Men's doubles pair Terry Hee and Hendra Wijaya lost to Jacco Arends and Jelle Maas 11-21, 17-21 while women's doubles duo Elaine Chua and Shinta Mulia Sari were beaten 21-15, 21-14 by Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek.
Mixed doubles pair Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Vanessa Neo were also beaten, losing 15-21, 19-21 to Samantha Barning and Jorrit de Ruiter.
Singapore sit in second place in Level 2 Group A, behind the top-placed Dutch and will play France on Thursday.
