Nottinghamshire won their first County Championship title since 2010 as they clinched the two batting bonus points they needed against Warwickshire at Trent Bridge on Thursday to take an unassailable lead in the standings.
Nottinghamshire collected the points they needed by reaching 300 in their first innings against Warwickshire, moving out of reach of defending champions Surrey at the top of the Division One table.
Nottinghamshire, who only avoided relegation in the final round of fixtures last year, became champions in style with Kyle Verreynne striking a six to take them past the 300-mark.
Captain Haseeb Hameed struck his fourth century of the season with a composed 122, before South African wicketkeeper Verreynne contributed a steady half-century as Nottinghamshire were all out for 374 in response to Warwickshire's first-innings total of 258.
Nottinghamshire, who had beaten Surrey in their previous match, sealed their seventh County Championship title and ended Surrey's run of three straight successes. REUTERS
