Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim (third from right) breaking fast with others at the Sallim Mattar Mosque near Aljunied yesterday evening during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan. With a capacity of 1,000, the mosque is popular with workers at industrial estates nearby.

A $927,700 renovation from January last year to February this year made the venue more spacious and more accessible for the handicapped and elderly.

Every day throughout Ramadan, volunteers at mosques across Singapore prepare and distribute porridge for Muslims to break fast at sunset, followed by special night prayers.
