SINGAPORE – If you are wondering how to support your child in his or her Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) journey, sign up for The Straits Times Smart Parenting PSLE Prep Forum on April 4.

The forum will consist of a plenary session helmed by Mr Ong Kong Hong from the Ministry of Education (MOE), followed by a mathematics session by Dr Yeap Ban Har.

Mr Ong, who is divisional director in charge of curriculum planning and development, will give an overview of the PSLE and

the scoring system introduced in 2021

.

Parents can ask questions on how the exams are marked and if the final grades are moderated. He will also answer parents’ questions on what to consider in the choice of a secondary school for their children.

Dr Yeap, a textbook author and former National Institute of Education lecturer, will be sharing tips with parents on how to help their children with PSLE mathematics.

Parents with children still struggling with the subject often ask

if there is still time for them to make a marked improvement

before the PSLE in September.

Dr Yeap says a child who is scoring Achievement Level (AL) 6 for maths typically has his basics in place and should focus on solving problem sums well. AL6 is for the mark range of 45 to 64 points.

He will share more details on how to do so, as well as other relevant strategies, at the upcoming forum in April. Mark the date on your PSLE Companion calendar.
