How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies topped the Singapore box office over the weekend of June 6 to 9. Becoming the highest-earning Thai movie in Singapore, the tearjerker had grossed $3.67 million in ticket sales as at June 17. Gabriel Ramsey rounds up what young people think of the film.
I think the movie did a good job in terms of being very “#relate”, where everyone can see parallels with their own grandma even though they’re from different cultures. The pacing was done well and not like other Asian sentimental films, which have a tendency to be overly emotional and draggy. I saw it was “upz” on TikTok, then I watched the trailer and it looked good. (Thai actress) Tontawan is part of the cast, which is a small contributing factor too. I’m also a sucker for independent, coming-of-age films with pretty cinematography, which this film is.
