Singapore GE: Why does updating electoral registers take about a month?

The Elections Department uses data from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority to update the voter rolls, to automatically include those who are of eligible age.

Singapore's next general election, which has to be held before April 21 next year, can be called only after the electoral registers are updated, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in a Facebook post on Saturday. That will take about a month, he added. Political reporter Fabian Koh explains why it takes that long, and how it fits into the entire electoral process.
