SINGAPORE - It will be a wet start to October, as thundery showers are expected across Singapore on several mornings and afternoons in the first half of the month.
In a statement on Oct 1, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said inter-monsoon conditions are expected to set in during the first week of the month, with the south-west monsoon coming to an end.
The inter-monsoon season may see light and variable winds with higher lightning activity.
Daily maximum temperatures will likely range between 32 deg C and 34 deg C on most days, the weatherman said, with the temperature on a few days coming in at a little over 34 deg C.
The Sumatra squalls may bring widespread thundery showers and gusty winds on one or two mornings.
Total rainfall in the first fortnight of October is slated to be near average over most parts of Singapore.
Giving its review on weather conditions in the last two weeks of September, the MSS said south-west monsoon conditions prevailed over Singapore, with winds blowing mostly from the south-east or the south-west.
Singapore experienced well-below-average levels of rainfall, with localised, short-duration thundery showers falling over parts of the island on several days. Jurong West recorded rainfall that was 94 per cent below average.
On Sept 28, the regional convergence of winds brought moderate to heavy thundery showers over many areas of Singapore in the afternoon and the evening.
On the same day, Pasir Ris recorded the highest amount of rainfall in a single day during the second fortnight of September, when 59.4mm of rain fell.
The daily maximum temperatures during that fortnight were above 33 deg C on most days.
Meanwhile, Pulau Ubin and Admiralty registered the highest daily maximum temperatures of 34.6 deg C on Sept 23 and Sept 27, respectively.
