Weekend of fun and games at Sports Hub

The Singapore Sports Hub will host a two-day carnival during the jubilee weekend on Aug 8 and 9 to celebrate the Republic's 50 years of independence.

The Singapore Sports Hub SG50 Carnival, held on both days from 9am to 9pm, will feature more than 20 free sports, entertainment and lifestyle activities for the public.

The carnival will feature sports-themed games across the Hub, and will culminate in a live screening of the National Day Parade at the OCBC Square on Sunday evening. On Saturday, the movie Ah Boys To Men 3: Frogmen will be screened.

Also at the square will be live performances, as well as traditional kampung and giant classic board games like hopscotch, airplane chess, capteh, five stones and marbles. Children can have fun at the kids' play and craft zone, which features, among other things, an inflatable bouncy castle, a bungee trampoline, face painting and sand art.

At the OCBC Arena, the public can try out novelty games like human futsal and human bowling. DJ clinics, K-Pop dance tutorials and basketball workshops will also be held in the arena.

In addition to the carnival, sports courts and gym usage at the OCBC Arena will be free on Aug 7 and 10, subject to prior booking.

The OCBC Aquatic Centre will be open to the public, with fishing games and kids' pedal boats in the training pool. There will be more water activities like adult pedal boats, canoeing and kayaking try- outs at the Water Sports Centre.

"The SG50 Carnival's exciting and comprehensive line-up of events for the weekend, culminating in the live telecast of the National Day Parade, will ensure that there is something for everyone to enjoy and provide a weekend of entertainment and festivity," said Mr Oon Jin Teik, the Singapore Sports Hub's chief operating officer.

Dr Maliki Osman, Minister of State for National Development and Defence and Mayor, South East District, will open the carnival.
