Recalling the scene in the city of Shifang, in north-east Sichuan, in 2008, Senior Warrant Officer Ahmad Faizal said the magnitude-7.9 earthquake had destroyed most of the buildings - including two schools - and left the streets covered in rubble.

He was part of the 55-strong Operation Lionheart contingent that was activated to aid in disaster relief following the Sichuan earthquake.
