SINGAPORE – The affected section of Veerasamy Road in Little India has reopened to traffic after a leaking potable water pipe was fixed, national water agency PUB said on Dec 18.
In response to media queries, PUB said it was alerted to the leaking pipe incident near Block 638 Veerasamy Road at about 4.15am on Dec 17.
The affected section of the road – between Jalan Besar and Kampong Kapor Road – was then closed for repair work.
PUB said its service crew was dispatched and isolated the leak at 7.15am.
Water supply in the surrounding area was not affected, it said, adding that it is investigating the cause of the leak.
Chinese-language media outlet Shin Min Daily News reported that water from the faulty pipe had flooded the road near the block. Also, some stallholders in a coffee shop nearby had closed for the day, fearing that their water supply would be affected because of the damaged pipe.
In an update on Dec 18, PUB said the repair works were completed in the evening of Dec 17, and the affected road has reopened to traffic.
The water from the leaking water pipe flooded the road, leading some stallholders in a coffee shop nearby to close for the day amid fears their water supply would be affected.
