SINGAPORE - A 43-year-old man allegedly drove his van at a speed of 132kmh – more than 60kmh over the vehicle’s imposed speed limit - along the PIE on April 13.

He is expected to be charged in court on June 17, along with seven other motorists who had also flouted speed limits, said the police in a media statement on June 16.

All eight motorists had allegedly exceeded the speed limit by more than 40kmh.

Two of them – one of whom is the van driver – allegedly went 60kmh over the limit.

The other is a 56-year-old who allegedly drove a car at 120kmh along Sheares Avenue, double the limit, on March 30.

Seven of the eight committed their alleged offences in March and April 2025, while one allegedly sped on Dec 28, 2024.

The drivers will be charged for speeding – an offence that carries a fine of up to $1,000, a jail term of up to three months, or both.

Subsequent offenders may be fined up to $2,000, face six months in jail, or both. They may also be disqualified from driving all classes of licence.

Speeding remains one of the main causes of accidents here, with the number of people killed and injured in traffic accidents
