SINGAPORE – A medical centre in Admiralty that serves people with urgent but non-emergency issues will be closed on Aug 31.
The Urgent Care Centre (UCC), set up in September 2020, is run by 15 healthcare professionals and sees only 1,800 patients a month, said Woodlands Health in a Facebook post on Aug 19.
According to the Woodlands Health website, the team includes doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, radiographers and medical technologists.
“Given the high staff-to-patient ratio, the closure will allow us to better deploy healthcare resources to other hospitals and polyclinics to provide acute and chronic care for more patients,” Woodlands Health said in the Facebook post.
The Ministry of Health is working with community partners to repurpose the facility to better meet other residents’ healthcare needs, Woodlands Health added.
Details on the repurposed facility will be announced when ready, it said.
The UCC was opened to serve residents living near Admiralty with urgent non-emergency care needs, as the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in Yishun was experiencing very high patient volume then, said Woodlands Health.
The centre provides a one-stop service for consultation, diagnosis and treatment. Someone with a painful sprain can visit the centre for an X-ray to rule out a fracture, for example.
Since then, several new general practitioner clinics, Woodlands Health hospital, and the Sembawang and Khatib polyclinics have been set up in the area, the post said.
