SINGAPORE - People who are eligible for the Novavax Covid-19 vaccine can go to selected clinics from Jan 24 to April 30 for an updated version of the jab.

This batch of updated JN.1 Novavax vaccine will not be available under the national vaccination programme after it expires on April 30, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a statement on Jan 23.

This is because this version of the vaccine will no longer be supplied by the manufacturer once current stocks expire.

The Health Sciences Authority has approved the vaccine for use on those aged 12 and above here.

The protein-based vaccine is recommended for people who are unable to receive mRNA vaccines, except those diagnosed with myocarditis – or inflammation of the heart muscle – or pericarditis after a previous dose of an mRNA vaccine.

Pericarditis is the swelling and irritation of the thin tissue surrounding the heart.

“Covid-19 vaccination continues to protect against severe disease,” the ministry said.

“We encourage everyone, especially those aged 60 and above, medically vulnerable individuals or residents of aged care facilities, to remain updated with their vaccination based on the prevailing recommendations.”

Those who want a Novavax jab can book an appointment at a participating Healthier SG clinic from Jan 24, through

Those receiving the Novavax vaccine as an additional dose should do so around one year from the last shot.

Alternatively, people can also choose between the updated JN.1 Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty and JN.1 Moderna/Spikevax vaccines, which continue to be free under the programme. Both are mRNA vaccines.

In December, MOH said those who wanted to get the Novavax Covid-19 vaccine jab had to do so

by Dec 31, 2024, as supplies then were to expire on that day
