SINGAPORE – An unexploded World War II bomb found off Lornie Road on Nov 21 was found safe to handle and has been removed for disposal by the Singapore Armed Forces’ bomb disposal unit.

When contacted, the police said they were alerted at about 9.15am to a suspected war relic discovered at 239 Sime Road. The address is that of country club Keppel Club.

No danger was posed to the public, the police added.

In a statement on Nov 22, Keppel Club said the bomb was removed safely at about 5pm on Nov 21.

A club staff member found the bomb under mud and vegetation at the edge of a carpark while cutting grass, said the statement. The area was cordoned off immediately.

In an e-mail to its members, Singapore Island Country Club, which neighbours Keppel Club, said security teams and the authorities redirected traffic and cordoned off areas after the relic was discovered.

The operations of both clubs were not affected.
