SINGAPORE - Two men are slated to be charged in court on April 9, with separate cases of theft.
In one case, a 36-year-old man was arrested on April 7 for his suspected involvement in the theft of two boxes containing red packets at a wedding reception, the police said on April 8. The red packets are estimated to contain a total of around $50,000.
The police were alerted to the case at a hotel in Beach Road at about 12.49pm on April 5.
Cash amounting to $3,000 was recovered and seized, the police said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man may have planned the theft and also changed into different attire after the alleged incident.
In another case, a 26-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly stole a gold bracelet from a jewellery shop in Serangoon Road.
The police said on April 8 that they were notified on April 6 at about 3.35pm, after the man had left the shop with the $12,000 bracelet without paying for it.
The police arrested him within 24 hours of the report.
They said their investigations revealed that the man had tried on the bracelet, expressing interest in buying it. He then walked out of the store while the staff member was serving another customer.
Cash amounting to more than $4,900, a smartphone and a laptop were seized as case exhibits.
