SINGAPORE - Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and Education Minister Ong Ye Kung received Mr Kim Jong Un upon his arrival in Singapore on Sunday afternoon (June 10).

An Air China plane carrying the North Korean leader touched down at Changi Airport just after 2.30pm, after which he was met by the two ministers.

Dr Balakrishnan shared a handshake with Mr Kim, who was all smiles, in photos posted on the two ministers' Facebook pages.

"Received Chairman Kim Jong Un with Vivian Balakrishnan a while ago," Mr Ong wrote in his Facebook post.

Dr Balakrishnan on Saturday returned from a whirlwind five-day trip that saw him visiting both Washington and Pyongyang ahead of the history summit on Tuesday.

He told Singapore reporters in Beijing on Saturday that it was "all systems go" for the June 12 summit, after he met officials on both sides to tie down arrangements.

"I have met both sides, I see sincerity on both sides, I see a desire, a willingness to escape the constraints that have applied for the last seven decades - so with goodwill and creativity let's see what they come up with," Dr Balakrishnan had said.

Mr Kim is due to meet Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong later on Sunday.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump is expected to arrive on Sunday night at Paya Lebar Airbase, ahead of the summit at Sentosa's Capella Hotel.
