SINGAPORE – Limited train services on the East-West Line (EWL) will operate from 5pm on Sept 25 between Buona Vista and Queenstown MRT stations, and between Jurong East and Boon Lay MRT stations.

These shuttle services will run at intervals of 10 minutes, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a statement at about 2.50pm. They will operate until the end of service.

The shuttle trains will not operate between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations.

LTA said that regular train services will not be available between Boon Lay and Queenstown MRT stations in both directions for at least the rest of the day.

The measures followed

a disruption to train services on the EWL

in the morning. An eastbound train developed a fault at about 9am near Clementi station. While the train was being withdrawn, a power trip was detected at 9.25am, causing trains on the EWL between Queenstown and Boon Lay stations to stall.

“Our preliminary assessment is that when the damaged train was being withdrawn, it caused damage to the tracks, including the running rails and the third rail supplying power to the train,” said LTA.

Commuters can take free regular buses and bridging buses between affected stations. To cope with the evening peak, LTA said it has activated “additional support from bus operators”.

Commuters can also board the regular bus services calling at designated bus stops at the affected stations, LTA added.

In an update on Facebook, SMRT encouraged commuters travelling from Tuas to alight at Jurong East station and take the North-South line towards the city. Those returning home from the city can take the Circle Line, Thomson-East Coast Line or the Downtown Line, SMRT said.
