When Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat announced a doubling of the diesel tax to 20 cents a litre earlier this year, there was a small outcry.

Fleet owners pointed out that there were no ready alternatives to diesel models, especially for heavy vehicles. That is actually not true, as PSA Corp is buying 200 liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks, representing 15 per cent of its truck fleet.
