Oil spilling from a Malaysian- registered tanker forced the closure of two lanes on the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) for clean-up yesterday, leading to a massive traffic jam that hit morning commuters. The congestion stretched from Woodlands Avenue 3, past the area where the oil had been spilt near the Mandai Road exit, all the way to the Kranji Expressway exit. Even at noon, workers were using barrels to collect the oil which continued to spill from the truck. A car had crashed into the tanker at around 3am, and operations to repave the affected stretch of the BKE were completed at 6.35pm.
