SINGAPORE - Mercedes-Benz has rolled out the first supercapacitor hybrid vehicle here - a public bus operated by SBS Transit.

Unlike a conventional hybrid which relies on batteries, a supercap hybrid makes use of supercapacitors to store electrical energy. And while those batteries power motors which drive the wheels of a conventional hybrid directly, the supercapacitor powers a motor-generator which augments the internal combustion engine.
