New bus routes in Choa Chu Kang to start in April

SINGAPORE - TWO new bus routes will be launched in Choa Chu Kang from April, while two existing routes will be tweaked.

Both feeder service 301 and trunk service 983, operated by SMRT, will start on April 25 from Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange and ply within the Choa Chu Kang neighbourhood.

The two new bus services were supposed to start in February, but the LTA held them off till this month to respond to concerns from residents and finalise the routes.

LTA said the delay was to "ensure that these bus services would satisfy the needs of commuters, in this case to maintain a direct connection between Choa Chu Kang Avenue 5 and Avenue 2, to Choa Chu Kang Primary School."

"LTA will continue to engage the community in planning bus services taking into consideration overall journey times, connectivity, ease of transfers, ridership and bus network coverage to ensure that our bus services benefit as many commuters as possible."

Service 301 will travel along Choa Chu Kang Way, Choa Chu Kang Avenue 2 and Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3, Choa Chu Kang Avenue 6 and Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1 before returning to Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange. It will operate from 5.30am to 12.55am on weekdays, and from 5.45am to 12.55am on weekends and public holidays.

Service 983, which will travel along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 5 via Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4, will operate daily from 5.45am to 11.45pm.

This trunk service will also be extended to Bukit Panjang in the future, to improve connectivity to Bukit Panjang and the upcoming Downtown Line 2, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a statement on Friday.

With the two new services, the existing feeder service 300 will skip Choa Chu Kang Avenue 5 while service 982E, which connects Choa Chu Kang residents to the Central Business District during peak periods, will stop at two more bus stops.
