SINGAPORE – Participants in the National Day Parade (NDP) were immediately reminded of the safety and medical protocols in place following the death of a participant on June 21, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said on June 22.

A Certis auxiliary police officer

died after collapsing during a rehearsal at the Padang

on June 21, Mindef and Changi Airport Group (CAG) said on that day.

Social and Family Development Minister Masagos Zulkifli, an MP for Tampines GRC, identified the man as Mr Muhammad Adzri Abdul Adziz in a Facebook post on June 22.

Mr Masagos said he had gone to pay his last respects to Mr Adzri, a Tampines resident, on the same day.

Mr Adzri, 47, was part of the OneChangi contingent for the parade and ceremony segment of NDP 2025. Certis is one of the nine companies in the OneChangi contingent.

Mindef said that before rehearsals, participants are reminded not to continue if they feel unwell. There is also a mandatory health declaration that participants have to complete before joining the NDP as a marching contingent participant, it added.

“Notwithstanding these protocols, medical emergencies may still occur,” the ministry said.

There are doctors on-site, evacuation procedures and ambulances in place to support participants in the event of any medical emergencies during NDP training sessions, rehearsals and shows, Mindef added.

“The safety and well-being of our participants are, and continue to be, our utmost priority.”

On June 21, Mindef and CAG said the incident occurred at 11.23am.

Mr Adzri was immediately taken to the on-site medical post and, upon arriving at 11.26am, was attended to by the medical officer on duty.

He was immediately given cardiopulmonary resuscitation but remained unresponsive.

At about 11.40am, he was transferred to an ambulance and taken to Singapore General Hospital.

Mr Adzri was pronounced dead at about 12.20pm, Mindef and CAG said.

NDP 2025, which will be held on Aug 9

at the Padang and Marina Bay

, will feature 17 other civilian contingents.
