SINGAPORE – Platform screen doors at 15 underground MRT stations will be progressively upgraded over about 1½ years starting in August.

Train service and frequency at these stations on the North-South Line (NSL) and East-West Line (EWL) will not be affected, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a social media post on July 28.

The works to replace components of the doors are expected to be completed by end-March 2027, and come as part of ongoing efforts to renew and improve reliability of the rail network here, LTA said.

The existing doors have been in service for over 30 years, it added.

All major parts – including the doors’ pneumatic system, doorway drive system and controls and mechanism components – will be replaced.

No more than three screen doors per platform will be worked on at any one time, the transport authority said.

Works will begin at Marina Bay station from August to December, followed by Braddell, Toa Payoh, Bugis and Lavender stations from December 2025 to April 2026.

From April to August 2026, upgrades will take place at Somerset, Tanjong Pagar and Outram Park stations and on the NSL platforms at City Hall station.

The EWL platforms at City Hall and Raffles Place stations will see upgrades, along with those at Orchard and Dhoby Ghaut stations, from August to December 2026.

The last platforms to undergo the works will be at Novena, Newton and Tiong Bahru stations, along with the NSL platforms at Raffles Place, from December 2026 to March 2027.

“These upgrades will help ensure the (platform screen doors) continue to operate safely and efficiently for years to come,” LTA said.

Commuters are advised to look out for signage at affected stations and to board and alight at operational platform screen doors.
