SINGAPORE - Fuelled by aggressive bidding in the last two minutes of the latest auction, certificates of entitlement (COEs) ended higher for smaller cars and motorcycles.
COE for cars up to 1,600cc and 130bhp closed at $40,000, up from $36,890 previously. COE for cars above 1,600cc or 130bhp finished at $42,322, down slightly from $42,661.
Open COE, which can be used for any vehicle except motorcycles, closed at $39,903 - down substantially from $44,000 previously. Open COE rarely ends lower than the premium for bigger cars, which it ends up being used mostly for.
Commercial vehicle COE finished at $38,303, down from $39,000. Motorcycle premium rose from $8,001 to reach a new high of $8,451 as speculators continue to hoard certificates.
Industry watchers said the launch of new popular models from Toyota and Hyundai in recent weeks could have contributed to the rise in COE for smaller cars.
