SINGAPORE – About 17.3 million passengers passed through Changi Airport in the third quarter of 2025, 3.1 per cent more than the same period in 2024.

The airport recorded nearly six million passenger movements in July, 5.9 million in August and 5.5 million in September, according to the latest statistics released by airport operator Changi Airport Group (CAG) on Oct 22.

China was Changi Airport’s biggest market between July and September by passenger traffic, followed by Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia and India, CAG said.

Among the top 10 markets, China and Vietnam recorded the strongest year-on-year growth, at 9.7 per cent and 11.3 per cent respectively, the operator added.

The top five city links for the quarter were Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bangkok, Denpasar (Bali) and Shanghai, with the Singapore-Jakarta route posting double-digit growth.

There were 91,600 aircraft movements – which include landings and take-offs – at Changi Airport in the third quarter of 2025, compared with 92,100 in the same period in 2024.

In January, then Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat said the authorities expect traffic volumes at Changi Airport in 2025 to

exceed pre-pandemic levels, even as 2024 recorded 67.7 million passengers, just shy of 2019’s 68.3 million

.

From January to September, Changi Airport handled about 52 million passenger movements – around two million more than the same period in 2024.

The airport’s network continued to expand in the third quarter, with new flights and destinations added.

Indonesian carrier Pelita Air started operations at Changi Airport in August, with daily flights between Singapore and Jakarta.

In the third quarter of 2025, Changi Airport was linked to new Chinese cities. In September, Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines launched a four-times-weekly Singapore-Haikou-Changchun service.

Earlier in October, another Chinese airline, Loong Air, began three-times-weekly flights to Zhangjiajie.

Batik Air Malaysia will add new daily flights to Ipoh, Penang and Subang from Dec 8.

From Nov 11, Lion Group airlines Batik Air Malaysia, Batik Air Indonesia and Thai Lion Air will operate at Terminal 4, CAG said.

The move to Terminal 4 from Terminal 3 will support the group’s growth and meet rising regional travel demand, CAG added.

Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of national carrier Singapore Airlines, will add

new routes to four Indonesian cities

: Labuan Bajo, Medan, Palembang and Semarang.

Flights to these cities will start progressively between December 2025 and February 2026, Scoot said on Oct 15.

Changi Airport continues to build on the positive momentum in travel demand in the third quarter, said Mr Lim Ching Kiat, CAG’s executive vice-president for air hub and cargo development.

The expansion of Changi Airport’s network further improves Changi’s connectivity to the region, he said.

“As we gear up for the year-end travel season, travellers can look forward to greater convenience and more ways to explore both new and familiar destinations,” Mr Lim added.

As at Oct 1, some 100 airlines operate about 7,000 weekly scheduled flights at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to more than 160 cities in 50 countries and territories worldwide. The airport’s target is to be linked to more than 200 cities by the mid-2030s.

Changi Airport handled 531,000 tonnes of air freight in the third quarter of 2025, 3.7 per cent more than the corresponding period in 2024.

From July to September, the top five air cargo markets were China, the US, Australia, Hong Kong and India.
