SINGAPORE – Twenty publicly accessible carparks in industrial areas will be equipped with at least 46 new electric vehicle (EV) charging points – most of which are fast chargers – by 2026, said EV-Electric Charging (EVe) on Jan 24.
EVe, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) subsidiary responsible for EV-charging deployment, awarded its second tender for new EV chargers to ST Engineering’s urban solutions unit and local charging operator SP Mobility.
With these two new contracts that will deploy EV chargers primarily to industrial areas, at least 36 50-kilowatt (kW) direct current (DC) fast chargers will be installed at 15 locations across the island, including Kranji Loop, Gul Circle and Bulim Lane.
A minimum of six 30kW DC fast chargers will be installed at three locations: one spot in Pandan Loop, and two others along Ayer Rajah Crescent.
At least four 22kW alternating current (AC) chargers – or slow chargers – will be installed at LTA’s Hampshire and Sin Ming offices.
EV drivers can expect to get a full charge in about an hour using fast chargers. In contrast, an EV using a slow charger typically reaches a full charge after six to eight hours.
The new charging points will be rolled out in two phases progressively in 2025 and 2026, with the first site expected to be operational by end-2025. ST has asked EVe for more details about this site.
This latest tender aims to support the EV charging network here, beyond HDB residential and commercial premises, in order to enable the electrification of commercial vehicles and provide drivers with more charging options, said EVe.
The first tender was awarded in June 2024 to ComfortDelGro-owned CDG Engie and Keppel-owned Volt Singapore, which marked the first phase of a larger plan
ST Engineering and SP Mobility are among EVe’s eight pre-qualified EV charging operators selected to roll out the next phase of public EV chargers.
The other six operators are Charge+, CDG Engie, Shell Singapore, Strides YTL, TotalEnergies Marketing Asia-Pacific Middle East, and Volt Singapore.
Ms Stephanie Tan, chief executive of EVe, said placing fast chargers in industrial areas helps to better support the diverse needs of EV drivers and support the electrification of commercial fleets.
She added: “Our goal is to make charging convenient and reliable so drivers can spend less time waiting.”
As at November 2024, more than 15,300 charging stations have been installed across the island.
The Government’s aim is to install at least 60,000 EV chargers here by 2030.
