About 500 locals hired as bus drivers from Jan to Sept

SINGAPORE - Around 500 Singaporeans and permanent residents have been hired as public bus drivers in the first nine months of the year as efforts to attract more locals to the sector continue apace.
Competitive salaries have made the industry more attractive, said National Transport Workers' Union (NTWU) executive secretary Melvin Yong, while the pandemic has led to more locals becoming bus drivers, said one operator.
