A trailer burst into flames on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) yesterday, resulting in a build-up of traffic along a 3.5km stretch for more than an hour.
No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred near the Paya Lebar exit.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), which was alerted at about 11am, said the fire involved the tyres of the trailer.
SCDF officers extinguished the blaze using two compressed air foam backpacks and a water jet.
Photos sent to The Straits Times showed plumes of black smoke rising into the air from the trailer. The tyres near the rear were seen to be in flames.
There were no reported injuries, SCDF said.
The Land Transport Authority said in a tweet at about 11.30am that there was an accident on the PIE towards Tuas, before Paya Lebar Road.
In subsequent tweets, the Land Transport Authority said the accident had led to congestion till Bedok North Road.
