A work site for a new nursing home in Bukit Batok has been told to stop all work after two construction workers fell and one was left hanging precariously yesterday.

The incident was first reported by Lianhe Zaobao, which said that two workers fell from an uncompleted building, while a third was seen hanging from the scaffolding.

In response to queries from The Sunday Times, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) confirmed that three workers were injured. The MOM spokesman added that the incident involved a scaffold that fell from the ninth storey of a building under construction. "MOM is investigating the incident and the occupier has been instructed to stop all work," said the spokesman.

The developer of the building is MOH Holdings, the Government's holding company for public healthcare assets, while the construction company is Guan Ho Construction.

According to the Urban Redevelopment Authority's website, a nursing home is being constructed at the site.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it responded to an incident at Block 448B Bukit Batok West Avenue 9 at about 11.50am. Three men in their 30s were taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, it said.

According to an eyewitness quoted by Lianhe Zaobao, one of the three workers was spotted hanging on to the metal scaffolding of an unfinished 10-storey building. The eyewitness also saw several workers attempting to use a construction crane to rescue the man.

It is not known how the man was eventually brought to safety. At least two ambulances were at the scene, reported Lianhe Zaobao.
